In December 2007, the InfoComm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) and the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority Singapore (ACRA) collaborated to offer another reason for businesses to own their domain names. Quoted from the collaboration website: “Starting end 2007 to 2010, all ACRA-registered businesses without a domain name will save up to S$30 for the first-year registration of their first domain name”.

The website also cited justifications similar to those mentioned by me during his talk regarding the benefits of owning a domain name such as (1) Present a professional image, (2) Reach out to an infinite local or global audience and (3) Expand your business and sell 24/7, even without access to a physical store.

The collaboration has also made it very easy for businesses to reserve their preferred domain name. According to the website “You can now easily reserve a domain name (ending with ‘.com.sg’ or ‘.sg’) at the same time when you register a business, company or limited liability partnership in Singapore electronically via the BizFile system, with ACRA.” The domain name selected will be reserved for 3 months, during which the business may approach any of the participating registrars to activate the domain name”.
